Goverdhan Mehta appointed NAAC Chairman

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) Prof Goverdhan Mehta, the former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, has been appointed Chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Prof Mehta's appointment to the Executive Committee of NAAC will be for a period of three years, the Council said.

An expert in the chemistry of complex natural and non-natural products, Prof Mehta had been in the news recently when the US embassy reportedly turned down his application for a visa to visit the country.

Prof Mehta is currently working at IISc as CSIR Bhatnagar Fellow.

NAAC is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country.
