ED sends notice to Natwar

New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) The Justice Pathak Committee inquiring into the Iraqi oil-for-food scam has served notices on former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh and 17 others.

Mr Singh has been asked to file an affidavit within ten days, according to officials.

Andleeb Sehgal, a friend of Mr Singh's son Jagat, and former Ambassador to Croatia, Aniel Matharani are also among those who have been issued the notices, the officials said.

Mr Singh, whose name appears on the Volcker report on the UN oil-for-food scam, had denied his involvement. The Enforcement Directorate had quizzed Mr Singh, Jagat and Sehgal on the issue.

The Enforcement Directorate has reportedly come in possession of some documents from Jordan and Iraq in connection with the suspected involvement of Indians in the scam.

Sehgal, the Director of Hamdan Exports, was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate earlier. Mr Matharani, had also been questioned by the directorate.

Mr Singh had to quit the Union Cabinet in the aftermath of the scam.
