BJP demands UPA govt amend constitution for Telangana
Hyderabad, Mar 19 (UNI) Stating that the BJP did not recognise the Pranab Mukharjee committee on Telangana as it had no constitutional validity, the party today demanded that the UPA government initiate constitutional procedure for creation of Telangana.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the UPA government had the responsibility to create Telangana state as it had been included in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP).
''It was high time to start preparations for Telangana by amending the Constitution,'' he said.
Alleging that the Congress and Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) had betrayed the people of Telangana by saying that the BJP was not responding on this issue, he said the BJP was ready to support the Bill on Telangana in the Parliament.
Mr Prakash said the party would deliberate about the action plan to achieve a separate Telangana at its 'Chintan Baitak' (brainstorming session) and national executive at the earliest.
