Audi score first win for diesel-powered sportscar

LONDON, Mar 19 (Reuters) Audi have made motor racing history with the first endurance race success for a diesel-powered sportscar.

Britain's Allan McNish, Italian Rinaldo Capello and Denmark's Tom Kristensen won the Sebring 12-hour race in Florida yesterday with the R10 car that is due to compete at this year's Le Mans 24 Hour classic.

''Crossing the finish line was a historic moment for diesel technology,'' said Kristensen, winner a record seven times in Le Mans and now the first driver to win the U.S. endurance showcase four times.

The car had qualified on pole on its race debut but started from the pit lane after a problem in the morning warm-up.
