Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) Pushing the onus on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for introduction of a Bill in Parliament for statehood to Telangana, BJP National President Rajnath Singh today categorically stated that his party was in favour of the demand for the Telangana state.

The Party National Executive in May would decide the next course of action in this regard, he announced at a press conference here.

Replying to a question, he claimed that the party had not not received any letter from the UPA Government in this regard.

Evading a direct reply when asked whether the BJP would extend support if the Bill was moved by the UPA Government, he said his party was in favour of Telangana state.

He alleged that the Congress and the TRS, which had come to power ''promising'' statehood for Telangana, had betrayed the Telangana people by their failure to act on the issue.

Mr Singh however, ruled out introduction of a Private Member's Bill in Parliament.

Earlier, Mr Singh discussed threadbare the Telangana issue and the party's strategy for the coming Panchayat polls in the state with the party's office-bearers in the state.
