Sant Kabir's followers oppose play on his life

Surat, Mar 18 (UNI) A play on the life of legendary Bhakti Sant, Kabir has to be cancelled after his followers opposed it as a distortion of his life.

In a statement here yesterday, Sree Maha Gujarat Kabir Pant Samaj accused the play as a distorted interpretation of Kabir's life.

The release said the play depicted Kabir as a married man with children. This was highly painful to the crores of followers, the release added.

The Samaj also submitted a memorandum to the District Collector requesting a ban on the play.

The one-charecter play, scripted, directed and acted by Sekhar Sen, was to be enacted at Dhindayal Upadhyay Indoor Stadium today.

Freinds of Tribal Society, the organisers of the play, yesterday said that instead they will stage another play on the life of ''Goswami Tulsidas'' at the same venue.
