Samaresh Jung shines as India win two shooting gold

Melbourne, Mar 18 (UNI) Ace marksman Samaresh Jung did the country proud by scripting India's two gold medal wins and setting new records in the Shooting events of the Commonwealth Games here today.

As India's gold rush at the shooting ranges continued unabated, Samaresh Jung had a hand in claiming both the gold. First he partnered Vivek Singh to win the gold in men's 10m Air Pistol Pairs and later in the afternoon paired with Ronak Pandit, son of former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ashok Pandit, to add the men's 25m Standard Pistol Pairs gold to his kitty, setting new Games records in the process.

Jung and Pandit totalled 1139 to push the Australian pair of David Moore and Bruce Quick to distant second spot (1112) for a silver while South African Allan Stuart Mcdonald and Francois Daniel took the bronze with 1106.

The Game record in this event was 1130.

Jung was in great form as he shot three series of 193 (95,98), 187 (93, 94) and 185 (93, 92) to total 565. Pandit complemented him with scores of 194 (94, 97), 194 (98, 96) and 186 (94,92) to total 574 and both aggregated 1139 for an easy gold.

Earlier, Jung (578) and Vivek Singh (576) gunned down gold for the country with a new Games record.

The duo, which was relegated to silver in men's 50 Air Pistol Pairs yesterday, broke the Games record held by England on way to the gold medal.
