'Russia, Europe have similar positions on Iran'

Moscow, Mar 18: European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso today (Mar 18, 2006) said Russia and Europe have similar positions on Iran's nuclear problem.

"Both Europe and Russia shared concerns about the situation in Iran and believed that Iran should be prevented from developing nuclear weapons," he told mediapersons here.

Mr Barroso said that he had discussed Iran's nuclear problem with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting yesterday.

"Europe supports the idea of setting up a joint venture in Russia to enrich uranium for Iran," he added.
