Protests over killing of businessman in Haryana
Kaithal, Mar 18 (UNI) Several markets remained closed and traffic was the roads here today in protest against the killing of a businessman here last night.
According to police, motorcycle-borne armed assailants shot at Narinder Arora (42), from point blank range in the head when he was preparing to leave for his home in a car after closing his shop on Chatrawas road at about 2015 hrs yesterday.
He was immediately Admitted to a nearby private nursing home but was referred to PGI, Chandigarh. He died on way to Chandigarh.
Hundreds of people reached the Pehowa chowk and blocked the traffic. The crowd also damaged the official vehicle of Kaithal SDM and iron barricade installed at the road divider at Pehowa chowk.
According to eye witnesses. the crowd, pelted stones at the vehicle and caused extensive damage to it Some vehicles were also stoned but no reports of any injuries have been received.
DSP (HQ) D D Bansal arrived and pacified the crowd and escorted the SDM to safety. Deputy commissioner B S Malik and SP Navdeep Singh Virk assured arrest of the criminals at the earliest.
The protestors expressed their anger against the entire government machinery for its failure to save the life of a citizen who was on the hit list of extortionists and who had mustered courage to disobey the diktat of the criminals.
