Probe ordered over molestation of girl in police custody

Imphal, Mar 18 (UNI) Retired Justice S P Rajkhowa will head the probe into the alleged molestation and torture of a girl, M Naobi in police custody for about ten days, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh announced in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. Mr Singh said the judicial inquiry would be completed within two months.

The inquiry will be held in Imphal, sources said. The government had taken the decision after Opposition members, Working Committee of Apunba Lup and other organisations demanded a probe.

The girl after being released by Thoubal police, had claimed that she had been molested and tortured in police custody. The government has already suspended five police personnel for alleged involvement in the incident.

A medical test was also done on the girl as per a directive of the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
