Chandigarh, Mar 18 (UNI) Union Health and Family Welfare minister Anbumani Ramadoss today appealed the country's medical fraternity to stay in India, stating that the reversal of brain drain had already begun.

''We do not want you to go down the drain,'' he said, while presiding over the Convocation function of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here.

He said that senior doctors with experience of over 20 years were now returning to their motherland from the West.

Stressing on ''the need for the doctors to understand the social concept of the country'', the Union Health minister said that the government was carving out a cordial atmosphere for the doctors to work satisfactorily in rural-oriented and social-oriented curriculum.

He said there was a need to focus on the chronic diseases now as people are suffering from stress related disorders like mental depression diabetes were more than the communicable diseases.

Dr Ramadoss said the Centre had kept an allocation in its 11th Plan to expand the medical institutes of repute like the PGIMER and the AIIMS in Delhi. In this regard, he said, the first ever Indian Institute of Health Engineering and Architecture would soon be established at the PGIMER here.
