Paswan for passing of Woman Reservation Bill in Parliament
Jammu, Mar 18 (UNI) Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Lok Jan Shakti Party President Ram Vilas Paswan today said the Women Reservation Bill should be passed to ensure 33 reservation to Women in Parliament.
Addressing a public meeting here, Mr Paswan also stressed on the need to make women aware of their rights, ''Only then can the country progress in real terms,'' he said, adding that for the 33 per cent reservation, the total number of seats of Parliament be increased by one third. That would bring a consensus among all the political parties.
He said increase in naxalism in the country was due to poverty and unemployment. Advocating reservation in private sector jobs, he said this will help in countering poverty and employment problems being faced by the Centre and state governments.
Terming criminalisation of politics, communalism and casteism as "cancers" in society, he urged all political parties, communities, factions and organisations to come forward and fight jointly against these.
He said even after 58 years of Independence the problems of Dalits have not been mitigated and they are deprived of basic amenities and fundamental rights.
He said the next public meeting of the party will be held at Bakhshi Stadium in Srinagar soon.
