PAC alleges misappropriation of funds

Imphal, March 18 (UNI) The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has reported that incorrect grant of exemption of stamp duty and registration fee has resulted in loss of revenue to the tune of Rs 8.69 lakh to the state government.

The PAC report which was tabled at the House yesterday said, the revenue department officials were unable to provide concrete replies to the queries posed by the PAC members.

Chairman of PAC R K Dorendra said the government had issued instructions to all the sub-registrars to discontinue the exemption/ remission of the stamp duty and registration fee which was suspended by a court order.

Mr Dorendra further noted lack of effective monitoring of revenue led to misappropriation of Rs 21.38 lakh, adding sale proceeds from rice was not mentioned in the records.

The committee was not satisfied with the replies of the officials in this matter, the report stated. The PAC recommended an internal audit system of the department should be improved to avoid recurrence of such irregularities.
