NHPC submits DPR for Dibang project

Itanagar, Mar 18 (UNI): The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) has finalised a detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 3000 mega watt Dibang multi-purpose power project in Arunachal's Lower Dibang Valley district, and submitted it to the Central Electric authority (CEA) for necessary approval.

The corporation had completed the DPR in a record time overcoming every barrier, informed NHPC sources, adding, major drilling and drifting, survey and investigation were still continuing in the dam site.

''Owing to its remoteness, the Dibang project hardly required any displacement of people and evoked least protest. The NHPC's expertise has been successfully implementing more such projects in the state,'' sources informed.

With growing demand of power due to rising population and industrial development in the state, the government should provide conducive atmosphere and come out with a comprehensive policy to tap the vast hydro power resources, the sources advocated.

The corporation had set up its office at Roing, the headquarters of the district during January, 2003 with an aim to harness 3000 mw power from the mighty Dibang river, sources added.
