Member demands independent status for State Bank of Indore

New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) Mr Pyarelal Khandelwal (BJP) today demanded that State Bank of Indore be separated from the State Bank of India and given an independent status.

Raising the issue during special mentions in the Rajya Sabha, Mr Khandelwal said the 86-year-old bank with its head office in Indore and 85 per cent of its branches in Madhya Pradesh could help immensely in the development of State with its strong financial base.

Mr Motilal Vora (INC) expressed concern over problems in the laying of Ravaghat-Delhi-Rajhara rail line, which has been pending for a long time, and demanded that it be completed without delay.

He said a new proposal for Rs 100 crore was sent to the Centre which was still being considered.

Mr Vijay J Darda (INC) wanted that Indo-China strategic dialogue be taken forward and certain long-standing issues, including the border, be solved without delay and efforts be made to ensure India became a great power rather than a super power.

Mr Matilal Sarkar (CPI-M) demanded that mobile phone services should be provided throughout Tripura, including border areas, by erecting network towers at short distances. People in the border areas should be enabled to benefit from this facility. There will be no problem to extend this service to the whole of Tripura and remote localities unless the Centre provides help for the same.

Mr Narayanasamy (INC) demanded the restructuring of the DDA, the MCD and the NDMC for the protection of the people of Delhi as they were living in fear. Seventy per cent of the people were living in slums and semi-urban areas. On the one hand, the DDA takes developmental charges and after that MCD demolishes the structures declaring them unauthorised. There was no coordination between all the three agencies and no proper guidelines were issued to the people, he added.

Mr Perumal (AIADMK) urged for allocation of funds and clearance to desalination plant at Chennai narrating the shortage of drinking water. A scheme was mooted two years ago for converting sea water as potable water, involving a cost of Rs 1000 crore, which was still on the paper. To provide drinking water is State's responsibility, but the delay was on the part of the Central Government in providing funds for the same, which he requested to be expedited.
