Malaysia trounce Trinidad and Tabago 8-0, India has tough task

Melbourne, Mar 18 (UNI) Malaysia thrashed lowly Trinidad and Tabago 8-0 to record their first win in the Men's Hockey competition of the Commonwealth Games here today.

Malaysia now have four pints from two outings. This huge win has created probem for India and the former world champions will have to win by at least 10 goals against the Carribean Island team and then score another big win against South Africa to keep alive their hopes for the knock out stage after losing 1-4 to Pakistan.

Mohd Amir Rahim (4), Jiwa Mohan (2), Azlan Misron and Logan Raj (one each) were the scorers for the winners.

Malaysia now have Four points from two games and that should guarantee them a place in the semi-finals.

Trinidad and Tobago had earlier suffered a 1-6 loss to South Africa.

In other hockey matches of the day, England beat Scotland 3-1, New Zealand beat Canada 4-1, while in the women section, England routed Scotland 5-0.
