Mah Govt to compensate affected farmers under flood norms

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Mar 18 (UNI) The Maharashtra Government will apply the same norms to the farmers in Marathwada who had lost their standing crops estimated at Rs 41 crore due to the recent hailstorm and unseasonal rains, under which it had given compensation to the flood-affected people.

Briefing reporters after chairing a review committee meeting here today, Maharashtra Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Patangrao Kadam assured that all the hailstorm-affected farmers in the region would be given the financial assistance at the earliest.

Mr Kadam, who is also the Guardian Minister of the Aurangabad district, said that out of the 17 deaths reported due to lightning in Marahwada during the unseasonal rains, an assistance of Rs one lakh each was given to the next of the 14 victims.

Replying to a question regarding the reported outbreak of fever in Paithan tehsil of the district, where at least few lakh people are expected to gather on account of an annual fair, the Minister said that directives were issued to the district health officer to reach the town and affected area, along with a medical team, in order to monitor the sitaution.
