Kashmir highway again closed due to landslides

Srinagar, Mar 18 (UNI) About 2000 vehicles are stranded on the 300- km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway following fresh landslides near Nasri Nullah, official sources said.

They said the highway was reopened for one-way traffic in the afternoon yesterday after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared the landslides between Ramban and Ramsu.

However, only stranded vehicles were allowed to move towards their respective detinations.

There were landslides again near Nasri Nullah on the highway forcing authorities to stop all vehicles which left from Jammu this morning, they added.

About 2000 vehicles, including passenger vehicles and truck loaded with essential commodities are stranded on the highway, they added.

A traffic police official said that BRO, responsible for the maitainance of the, only road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, has been pressed into service to clear the highway.

He said no vehicle would be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu today.
