'Judges, lawyers not responsible for pendency of cases'
Udupi, Mar 18 (UNI) Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph today said there was a misconception among people that judges and lawyers were responsible for pendency of cases in various courts across the country and clarified that the number of cases had considerably come down due to the efforts made by them.
Speaking after inaugurating the Rs 2.5 crore new district court complex here, he said that despite judges making all out efforts for speedy disposal of cases and lawyers cooperating with them, the number of cases filed each year was on the rise.
He stressed the need for increasing the number of courts and judges in the country. The Alternative Dispute Redressal Forum had helped in settling disputes through arbitration, conciliation and mediation.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced that the government had decided to provide stipend for a year to youths joining the profession from rural areas to help them sustain.
He said the government had also decided to make funding arrangements under the guidance of the Advocate General for conducting seminars and workshops through the State Legal Academy.
Later, he chaired the Udupi District Development Review Meeting and discussed about the various problems faced by the district and assured to take steps to resolve them.
