ISKCON plans to cover 1 mn children under mid-day meal scheme
Mangalore, Mar 18 (UNI) The Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF) run by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) planned to cover one million under privileged school children across the country under its mid-day meal scheme by 2010.
The 'Akshaya Patra' at present offered mid-day meals to about 3.8 lakh children in eight locations in the country, including Jaipur and Baran in Rajasthan and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, ISKCON Public Relation Head Govinda Das told reporters here today.
He said the conventional gas cooking method used now was being replaced by steam boiler system as it would help feed more children.
The first phase of the steam-based kitchen, set up here with help of ONGC and MRPL, would be inaugurated by ONGC Chairman Subir Raha tomorrow, he added.
