Inquiry ordered to ascertain its cause

Pune, Mar 18 (UNI) An inquiry has been ordered into the explosion at the Ordinance Factory at Dehu Road, near here, which claimed two lives late last night.

The fire broke out in one of the production units of the factory, in which two employees--Kisan Rakmaji Thorat and Bapu Limbaji Khandagale--lost their lives.

A fact-finding Board inquiry, instituted under the chairmanship of the Quality Assurance Establishment (Military Explosives) Dehu Road, will ascertain the cause of the fire, a defence release said today.

Besides the two deaths, there were no injuries even though there were 30 employees present at the time of the mishap, the release said.

The statement, did not mention the reason and the cause of the accident, which was immediately reported to the police authorities and the Additional Director (Industrial Safety and Health).

Suprintendent (Rural Police) Vishwas Nagre Patil, who visited the site of the accident, said the explosion might have occurred due to burning of the magnesium candles which were also stored in the shed, causing the blast.

The authorities have informed about the death of the employees to the respective family members and have handed over the bodies to them . They have also extended financial assistance to them.
