Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18 (UNI) Inching closer to a tie up with the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) in the coming assembly elections in the state, the Congress today said the discord between them was only a creation of mistrust and if this cloud of mistrust and misunderstanding was cleared, then the differences could melt away.

''It is only a creation of mistrust and if this is cleared, I do not feel that the differences can not be melted down,'' Congress Working Committee member in charge of Kerala Veerappa Moily told reporters here after meeting veteran leader K Karunakaran at his residence.

Declining to spell out the details of the one hour meeting he said, '' we held cordial discussions on all matters. I am happy and we are meeting again tomorrow.'' ''I am not new to him (Karunakaran) and his family,'' he added.

DIC (K) president K Muraleedharan, Indian Union Muslim League general secretary P K Kunhalikutty, Education Minister and League leader E T Mohammed Basheer also participated in the discussions.

Mr Kunhalikutty, who also met reporters, said the discussions could not be dragged and a decision would be soon arrived at.

Asked about the outcome of the talks, he said the IUML was only a mediator between the two parties and it was better for the congress, which was the main party in the discussions to disclose it.

Moreover, we are only helping them, he said and added that the league was very optimistic in this regard.

However, Mr Muraleedharan refused to address the media.

Mr Moily held discussions with Mr Muraleedharan on Wednesday and he was to meet Mr Karunakaran the same day. But he deffered his plan to meet the veteran leader today. After the talks, both of them had said that the discussions were held in a '' friendly'' atmosphere. Mr Moily had even said that they all belonged to the same family.

Meanwhile, Mr Muraleedharan had yesterday said his party had not reversed its decision to field candidates in all the 140 constituencies for the coming assembly elections. He also asserted that the part would contest on the symbol allotted by the Election Commission.
