HP government to honour Samresh Jung: Sports Minister

Bilaspur, Mar 18 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh government will honour Samresh Jung for winning a silver medal in shooting at the ongoing Melbourne Commonwealth Games, Youth Services and Sports Minister Ram Lal Thakur today said.

Mr Thakur, who is also the vice president of Indian Olympic Association, congratulated the players for winning three gold medals in shooting and performing well in other events as well.

He said the Olympic Association would honour the players winning medals for the country in the Games.

Earlier, the minister formally declared open the three-day long North India Open Invitation Hockey Championship at Nalwari Fair.

Referring to Bilaspur district, Mr Thakur said Rs 37 lakh had been sanctioned for providing wooden flooring in the indoor stadium here in Luhnu Ground, which had been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.22 crore.

He said a sum of Rs 1.37 crore had been sanctioned for outdoor stadium in the same ground, adding that Rs 27 lakh had been allocated for constructing a cricket stadium afresh.
