Hailstorm leaves four injured, destroys land and property

Barasat, Mar 18 (UNI) At least four school girls were injured after the roof of a poultry farm collapsed after a sudden hailstorm at Katiahat in North 24 Parganas yesterday.

The hailstorms also damaged at least 15 thatched houses and destroyed crops of Bajitpur, Majherpara and Katiahat villages, a delayed official report said here today.

According local people, the storm lasted for some 15 minutes, but in its impact 16 electric posts of the area were either broken or uprooted. Cash crops like mango and horticulture plant, besides oil seeds like Sunflower and Paddy of vast land were damaged.

Some 15 girl students returning home from local school took shelter in a road side poultry farm when its roof collapsed injuring four of them.
