Dharavi dev project to be completed in seven yrs: Deshmukh

Mumbai, Mar 18 (UNI) The ambitious Rs 5,600 crore Dharavi development project undertaken by the state government is in the preliminary stage and is expected to be completed in seven years, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told the Legislative Assembly today.

In a written reply to a question by Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam (Shiv Sena) and others, Mr Deshmukh said M/s M M Consultants have been appointed as the project consultants.

The entire Dharavi area will be divided into five zones as a part of the development scheme and the eligible slum dwellers will be provided 225 sq ft of land as a part of the rehabilitation, he said.

In a written reply to another question by Gajanan Kirtikar (Shiv Sena) and others, Mr Deshmukh said about 511 unauthorised or unlicensed industrial units have been removed from within 15 metre area on the banks of Mithi river and the action against encroachments will be completed by May 31.

He said the government had set up Mithi River Development and Conservation authority also Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has been entrusted with the task of surveying the illegal constructions and rehabilitating them, he added.
