Congress legislator resigns from assembly

Pondicherry, Mar 18 (UNI) Congress legislator K Lakshminarayanan today resigned from his seat.

He told newsmen that he had submitted his resignation to the Speaker.

Mr Lakshminarayanan, elected from Cassicade constituency on a Puducherry Makkal Congress (PMC) ticket, became a Congress legislator when the party founder and former minister P Kannan merged the party with the Congress.

Eventhough Mr Kannan quit the Congress and floated his new party Puducherry Munnetra Congress on May 11 last year, Mr Lakshminarayanan remained in the Congress, though he resigned as education minister.

He is likely to contest in the Puducherry Munnetra Congress ticket from Cassicade constituency in the May 8 elections.

Mr P Rajavelu, who was also elected from the Puducherry Makkal Congress ticket from Bahour, is also likely to resign to contest on the Puducherry Munnetra Congress ticket.
