Congress legislator resigns

Pondicherry, Mar 18 (UNI) Congress legislator K Lakshminarayanan today resigned to join the Puducherry Munnetra Congress on whose ticket he will contest the May 8 assembly elections in the union territory.

Mr Lakshminarayanan told newspersons here that he had tendered his resignation to the Speaker.

Later, addressing a press conference, former minister and president of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) P Kannan said that another legislator P Rajavelu elected from Bahour on a PMC ticket, would also resign.

He said the PMC has no objection to contesting on the AIADMK symbol and added that the constituency sharing process was very cordial.

He said Mr Omalingam, a PMC leader, lost his opportunity to contest from Cottucherry constituency since it had gone to the AIADMK. However, Ms Jayalalitha has assured to accommodate him in some other way.

Mr Kannan said the main aim of the alliance is to provide good goverenance to the people rather than opposing the Congress - DMK front. All the constituents of the alliance had equal responsibility to strive hard for the victory and this would be earnestly executed, he said.

The PMC will be contesting ten seats in the alliance while AIADMK contest 16, and the MDMK and DPA 2 each.
