Basu raps Election Commission over roll revision in West Bengal

Kolkata, Mar 18 (UNI) Expressing annoyance at the Election Commission, veteran CPI(M) Polit Bureau leader Jyoti Basu today said the way an exercise was being made to detect Bangladeshi nationals in the electoral rolls in West Bengal would lead to a massive chaos.

'' We are annoyed at the way the roll revision is being carried out to remove the names of Bangladeshi nationals which will result in removal of the names of those who are genuine voters while the Bangladeshi nationls will continue to be voters'' he said after a CPI(M) state committee meeting.

Mr Basu alleged that in many areas the names of genuine voters were being deleted from the voter lists on the charge that they were Bangladeshi nationals. ''Never before have I seen such a situation'', he said and hoped that the EC would take appropriate measure for a flawless voting lists.

Later CPI(M) state committee secretary Anil Biswas said the party aught to have a tab on the process of revision of the electoral rolls in the state. He also alleged that oppositions were aiding the Maoist extremists in the state in selected annihilation of CPI(M) leaders and workers.

'' The killings in districts are being done thorough Maoist miscreants. We have noticed the role played by Jharkhand Party, Trinamool Congress and the Congress as ancillary forces''.
