Asom poll roll gets a new web address
Guwahati, Mar 18 (UNI) Voters in Asom will not have to do the rounds of the District Magistrates' office to detect their names in the electoral rolls as the Election Commission has put the entire electoral list of the state on a website.
''This was done to help the electorate, so that they can find their names and numbers from anywhere. They can also correct their names,'' said Mr J B Prakash, the Chief Electoral Officer of Asom.
People can log on to the website, www.ceoassam.nic.in for relative information. The interactive site is being prepared by a special NIC team and the virtual information centre will have everything from affidavit of the candidates to the results as well as trends.
The NIC officials have been working round the clock to plug every loophole for effective dissemination of information.
The first phase of elections will take place on April 3, where 65 Assembly constituencies would go to polls, involving 8997 polling booths and 8,23,7631 voters. The second phase will comprise 612 constituencies, 9719 polling booths and 9,20,732 electorates.
