6 candidates in fray for RS elections
Bangalore, Mar 18 (UNI) Six candidates, including Jnanpeeth awardee U R Ananthamurthy, are in the fray for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha to be held here on March 28.
The Returning Officer after scrutinising the nominations of ten candidates today found the papers of six to be in order and rejected the remaining for want of minimum requisite proposers.
Besides Mr Ananthamurthy (Ind), the other members in the fray were Rehman Khan (Congress), K B Shanappa (BJP), M Rajashekhara Murthy (JD-S), Rajeev Chandrashekhar (JD-S) and Mallappa Chennappa (Ind).
The rejected candidates were T Sudhakar, T D R Harischandragowda, M Munireddy and Mr Shashikumar (all independents).
The elections were necessitated following the terms of four members from the state--Mr Rehman Khan, M Rajasekhara Murthy, Bima Raickar and K B Krishnamurthy--coming to an end.
