54 reservoirs in Saurashtra to be filled up with Narmada water

Gandhinagar, Mar 18 (UNI) The Gujarat government has made necessary arrangements for filling 54 small reservoirs in Saurashtra with the excess water of Narmada river.

The water will be taken through the branch canals of the river project.

This will help tackle the water scarcity in the region, a government statement said.

The dams--Brahmani I and II, Bogao I and II, Machhu I, II and III, Dami II and III and Aji IV--will be benefitted due to this.

The capacity of the Saurashtra branch canals will be enhanced from 319 cubic metre per second to 424 cu metre per second and for Kutch branch canals it will be increased from 170 cu me per sec to 220 cu me per second, it said.

The government also said under Sardar Patel Sahbhagi Jal Sanchay Yojana, 1,4678 check dams have been built across the state at a cost of Rs 329.63 crore in the past two years. Of these, 3,993 check dams have been built in Sabarkantha district in North Gujarat, the highest number in a district.
