Workshop to encourage students for Fulbright fellowship
Bhopal, Mar 17 (UNI) United States Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) Executive Director Jane E Schukoske today said she is encouraging students in the country to take benefit of the Fulbright scholarship.
Ms Schukoske told reporters here that about 170 aspirants went to the US last year for higher education after securing 'Fulbright Fellowship' under different courses.
She said around 7,600 students had taken advantage of the fellowship till now since it began in 1950.
Admitting that aspirants in big cities and towns were mostly benefitted by the fellowship, Ms Schukoske said she wanted that students from small towns also went to the US for higher education under the scheme.
She said a day-long-workshop had been organised in the state capital with this objective. Similar workshops will be organised in other parts of the State.
Ms Schukoske said interested candidates can obtain information about the fellowship from its website. Besides, USEFI offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata can be contacted.
USEFI Programme Coordinator K Shankar said about six persons will be sent from Madhya Pradesh to the US under the scheme this year. This will include students from Sagar and Jabalpur.
Under the 'Fulbright Fellowship' programme, a certain number of persons are sent to the US for higher education, as a part of an agreement between the Indian government and the US in 1950. The programme had been named after the then US Senator J William Fulbright.
