VHP leader to enter Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh
Raipur, Mar 17 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Shree Gopal Vyas today filed his nomination papers as BJP nominee for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh.
Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, his cabinet colleagues and ruling party functionaries were among those present when Mr Vyas filed his nomination papers before Assembly Secretary, who is the Returning Officer for the elections.
Mr Vyas, who is incharge of foreign affairs of VHP, is all set to get elected unopposed as his was the only nomination filed so far for the lone seat from the state falling vacant. Polling, if necessary, is scheduled for March 28.
The VHP leader had earlier served as regional head of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) after he took voluntary retirement from Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) where he worked as an engineer.
