Two killed in police firing; one in group clash: Dy CM

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Two persons were killed in the police firing on a rioting mob, while another one died in group clash Ghansoli in the Satellite township of Navi Mumbai, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil told the Legislative Assembly today.

In a statement here in the Lower House, Mr Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that clashes took place following tension over an eve-teasing incident during the 'Holi' celebrations yesterday.

The Deputy Chief Minister said there was tension in the area after the eve teasing incident and those of stone pelting and destruction of vehicles. However, the situation was 'under control' now, he said.

Earlier Today, a mob of about 2,000 people, clashed with a 1,500-strong 'Mathadi' (headload) workers.

The police resorted to lathi charge, tear gas and later opened fire to control the rioting mob. Two persons were killed in the firing, he said.

The injured, including some policemen, were being treated at local hospitals, Mr Patil said.
