State Govt committed to implement President's suggestion:CM

Bangalore, Mar 17 (UNI) Karnataka Government was committed to implement the eleven-point suggestions made by President of India A P J Abdul Kalam to ensure overall development of Karnataka in a phased manner, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced today.

Replying to a two-day discussion on the suggestions made by the President to the joint session of the legislature on November 20, he said top priority would be given to all the suggestions so that the rural-urban divide was narrowed down.

He said the textile sector had a tremendous potential to create employments and urged the sector to spread out to districts. A private company had come forward to set up an apparel park involving investment of Rs 300 crore at Kanakapura. The government would take a final decision on March 24 in this regard.

He said the government was committed to promote Jetropa plantation as an alternate source of energy. The cultivation would be taken up over 10 lakh hectares in the coming year.

He reiterated that metro project would be implemented on warfooting and there would not be any delay. The government would chalk out alternative programme for providing speeder channel service he added saying that former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda had never opposed the metro project.

He said that the Japan Overseas Development Corporation has come forward to provide Rs 209 crore for overall development of historic Hampi in Bellary district.

In the Council Floor Leader and Higher Education Minister D H Shankarmurthy on behalf of the government gave the reply on the discussion.

Council Chairman V R Sudarshan asked the government to form a committee at Chief Minister's level for implementation of the President's eleven-point mission for the prosperity of the Karnataka.
