SSA to organise World Poetry Day next week
Gangtok, Mar 17 (UNI) Sikkim Sahitya Akademi (SSA) in association with the state Culture and Heritage Department is organising the 7th World Poetry Day here next week.
Sikkim Urban Development Minister D D Bhutia is scheduled to inaugurate the two-day function beginning here on March 21.
SSA Secretary G S Lama told newsmen here that around 50 eminent poets and observers from Assam, Meghalaya, Uttaranchal, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Nepal have given their consent to participate in the function.
Mr Lama said the meet would help literateurs to know the trend of modern poetry in various region, exchange thoughts and enrich the literature.
He said the poets were invited on the basis of the recommendations made by the Poets Foundation Kolkata, an affiliated body of the USA based Federation of International Poetry Associations.
Last year, the world poetry day was held in Kolkata.
