SLTJAC seeks Shekawat's intervenetion on reservation
Gangtok, Mar 17 (UNI) Sikkim Limbu Tamang Joint Action Committee (SLTJAC), an organisation fighting for the reservation of seats for the Limbu and Tamang communities, today sought intervention of Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekawat for there demand.
In a letter to the Vice-President, SLTJAC President P.R.Subba alleged that both the Union and the state governments were neglecting the two communities and deprvoing them of their political rights.
The communities were accorded Scheduled Tribe status in 2003.
He claimed a constitutional crisis had arisen as the Limbu and Tamang communities were denied their political rights, violating Article 371 (f) and 332 of the constitution.
Mr Subba said he had also written similar letters to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, BJP leader L K Advani, CPI-M leader Prakash Karat and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and thanked the state unit of the BJP for filing a case in the apex court on the seat reservation issue.
BJP state unit President H.R.Pradhan and three others had filed a case last month seeking a direction to the Delimitation Commission not to publish the final report until the seat reservation for Limbu and Tamang Communities was finalised.
