Sensex soars to all-time high of 10,951, but settles at 10,860
Mumbai, Mar 17: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index soared to an all-time high of 10,951.38 points but finally settled at 10,860 points as there was profit booking towards the close of the trading.
The markets dipped as the financial year closing in March and clearing of positions in the Futures and Options (F&O) drawing near had their impact on the shares, an analyst said.
Earlier, the Sensex crossed the 10,900 mark this morning, opening with a fairly good gain of 24 points at 10,902 over its last close of 10,878.
The benchmark index was just 48.62 points short of 11,000 mark as it touched an all-time high of 10,951.38 points, before cooling off in the early morning trade.
However, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index closed with a gain of 7.45 points at 3,234, as against the last close of 3,226.60 points.
Nifty touched a new high of 3,258.30 points in the intra-day trading.
