'Samprokshanam' performed to Rajagopuram in TN temple
Tiruchirapalli, Mar 17Thousands of devotees from various parts of Tamil Nadu congregated at the famous 'Vekkaliamman temple at Woraiyur to witness the 'Samprokshanam' performed to the newly built ''Rajagopuram'' (Temple Tower), here today.
Over thirty six Sivacharyas, led by senior priest Balasubramaniya Sivacharya of Palani temple poured the sacred water on the Rajagopuram at 0747 hours, amidst chanting of vedic hymns from the holy scriptures.
The temple, dating back to Sangam period was recently renovated at a cost of Rs One crore collected through donors contributions.
The same ceremony was also performed at the ancient ''Sri Bramma Sampath Gowri Sametha Sri Brahmmapuriswarar Temple'' at Tiruppattur near Siruganur in the district, this morning.
Devotees in large numbers thronged the temple to witness the event. The temple was renovated at a cost of Rs 70 lakh raised through contributions.
Special pujas and abhishekams were performed to the presiding deity, Lord Brahmmapuriswarar on the occasion.
Special buses were plied from various parts of Perambalur and Tiruchirapally districts to the temple by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation for the convenience of the devotees.
Security had been tightened in the state in view of the event.
