Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said a sum of Rs 1,000 crore will be spent on the beautification of Shimla town under the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission in the next seven years.

Shimla is among 63 other towns and cities selected by the Centre for launching the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, he said, while presiding over a meeting of the District Shimla Planning Development and 20-Point Programme Committee meeting here.

Mr Singh said his government had already launched a special campaign to restore the heritage glory of the town and the Mission would supplement the endeavour of the state government.

Besides carrying out beautification of the town, the mission would also help in developing new colonies for the slum dwellers and easing traffic, he said.

He said improved water supply, sewerage system and municipal facilities would be made available to the people of the town under the scheme.
