RPI-A convention in Mumbai from Mar 25

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) The State convention of Republican Party of India (RPI-A) will begin here on March 25 to chalk out strategies to strengthen the party.

Briefing mediapersons during the two-day convention here today, party national president Ramdas Athawale said while the convention would be inaugurated at Naigaun on March 25, a public meeting would be held at Shivaji Park on March 26.

Mr Athawale said former Prime Minister V P Singh, Union Coal Minister Shibu Soren, CPI(M) MP Sitaram Yechuri, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan, State Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil and Revenue Minister Narayan Rane would address the public meeting.

He said separate resolutions on development of dalits and adivasis, unemployment and women would be adopted at the convention.

''Mumbai as well as the entire State has a number of urgent issues like slum development which need to be resolved and the convention will throw light on those,'' Mr Athwale observed.

He also maintained that his party would make an appeal to the Maharashtra government for making 10 per cent reservation for the Umango community.
