Rehabilitation package for displaced at Gangavaram port

Hyderabad, Mar 17 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings and Ports Mr Jakkampudi Rama Mohana Rao today informed the state assembly that a rehabilitation package has been worked out for the 1038 families being displaced in Dibbapalem village due to the construction of the Gangavaram port.

Replying to a question by M A Gafoor, Nomula Narasimhaiah and others of the CPI(M) during the Question Hour, the minister said 1038 families of Dibbapalem village were identified as displaced, out of which 550 belonged to the fishermen community.

He said Gangavaram was more than two kilometres away from the sea coast and no one was displaced there.

The Minister said the displaced in Dibbapalem village were being provided with free house sites, lumpsum amount of Rs 44,500, housing loan and infrastructure facilities like roads, schools, and community halls at Pedagantyada and Gajuwaka lay outs of an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

The Minister said a Fish Landing Centre was being developed at Yarada sea coast at a cost of Rs 4.55 crore to facilitate fishing for the displaced fishermen.

He also assured the members that preference would be given to the project affected families in the job opportunities available in the port based on their eligibility and suitability.
