President accepts EC recommendation to disqualify Jaya Bachchan

New Delhi, Mar 17: President A P J Abdul Kalam today ( Mar 17, 2006) accepted the Election Commission's recommendation to disqualify Samajwadi Party'sJaya Bachchan from the Rajya Sabha on the ground that she was holding an office of profit, official sources said.

The EC had recently forwarded its recommendation to the President on the Rajya Sabha membership of Ms Bachchan, who is Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.

Ms Bachchan was elected to the Rajya Sabha on an SP ticket in January 2004.
