No new taxes proposed in Haryana budget, bus fare to go up

Chandigarh, Mar 17 (UNI) Except for a modest increase of five paise per kilometer in the bus fare, no new taxes have been proposed in the Rs 17,576.56 crore Haryana budget for 2006-07, which shows a deficit of Rs 65.47 crore.

The budget proposals for the year were presented in the State Assembly here today by Finance Minister Birender Singh.

The total receipts during the year have been anticipated at Rs 17,666.48 crore and expenditure at Rs 17,576.56 crore. The new year opened with a deficit of Rs 53.91 crore and is expected to close with a deficit of rs 65.47 crore. The transactions on the year's account thus show a deficit of Rs 11.56 crore.

The budget estimates provided for State Plan Outlay of Rs 3300 crore in addition to an outlay of Rs 602.33 crore for centrally sponsored schemes and other development plan schemes.

Mr Singh said the budget deficit of Rs 65.47 crore was within manageable limits and the measures proposed for financial discipline were likely to help contain the deficit.

The Finance Minister said in order to partially offset the extra burden on Haryana Roadways, he proposed a modest increase of five paise per kilometer in the fare to be charged from pasengers. This is likely to generate an additional revenue of Rs 40 crore to the state during the next year.
