NESO urges MHRD to accept VC's resignation
Kohima, Mar 17: The North East Students' Organisation(NESO), a powerful students' body of the region, has urged the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD) to immediately accept the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University.
In a memorandum submitted to the MHRD, the Nagaland governor and Chief Minister yesterday, NESO said it had been observing the crisis in the university and was of the view that the appointment of Prof G D Sharma as the Vice-Chancellor was ''shrouded'' in controversy which led to his resignation. It said the MHRD should have applied 'sagacious wisdom' and accepted the resignation 'at that point of time'.
NESO chairman, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, said in release that their 'summarised conclusion' was that Prof Sharma was ''short of'' the qualities required of a Vice-Chancellor and ''it was a proven fact that his appointment was politically motivated''. He urged acceptance of the resignation to begin the process of selection of a new VC keeping in mind the prevailing circumstances.
