NCP to contest Mahe, Pallor in ensuing assembly poll

Pondicherry, Mar 17 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) would contest the Mahe and Palloor assembly constituencies of the Union Territory in the May 3 assembly elections.

Talking to newspersons here today NCP Tamil Nadu President G P Sarathy said while Mr Ashok Kumar has been chosen to contest the Mahe seat, the candidate for Palloor seat would be decided later.

He said though the party has been in existence in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions, it is strong enough to contest the polls in Mahe region.

Mr Sarathy said the party would contest the elections alone in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

He said G Sundaramurty has been appointed as the party president for the Union Territory to strengthen it to enable it to contest in Pondicherry and Karaikal regions in future.

The party, if elected, would strive to redress the grievences of the agriculturists and find a solution to the unemployment problems in Pondicherry, he added.
