More than 1200 civilians killed in the last decade : Azad

Jammu, Mar 17 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today informed the state legislative council that 1246 civilians and 81 police personnel were killed in Rajouri and Poonch district in militancy-related incidents from 1990 to February 2006.

While replying to a question, Mr Azad told the Upper House that an ex-gratia relief to the family of deceased civilians and police persnnel are being provided, as also job in terms of SRO-43 scheme.

Scholarship is also given to school going children of the victims.

However, there is no proposal at present to establish a residential colony for such orphans, he added.
