Medical students to undergo six-month internship in villages in MP

Gwalior, Mar 17 (UNI) Medical students in Madhya Pradesh will be compulsorily required to spend six months in villages while undergoing one-year internship after completing their course, Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi said today.

Mr Vishnoi told reporters here that 170 hospitals had been identified in the state for posting medical students for internship.

Five doctors will be available all the time in such hospitals.

He said the state government will provide boarding arrangements for students being sent on internship free of cost. The students will also be taken to nearby primary health care centres.

The minister said doctors appointed on contract basis were being regularised for posting in rural areas. Besides, strength of nursing staff was being doubled.

He said all medical colleges in the state will be linked with telemedicine networking in a bid to enable students obtain education about departments in other colleges.
