Japan angry at new FIFA technical zone rule

TOKYO, Mar 17 (Reuters) Asian champions Japan have reacted angrily to a FIFA decision to restrict technical areas at this year's World Cup to one person at any time.

''It confuses me why FIFA would made a decision like this,'' Japan coach Zico said today. ''In order to get the best out of the players I need an interpreter with me.'' The Brazilian communicates with Japan's players through interpreter Kunihiro Suzuki, who joins Zico whenever he enters the technical zone in front of the bench.

However, FIFA have rejected a request from Japan to allow Suzuki to continue to do so.

Japan Football Association (JFA) chairman Saburo Kawabuchi promised to press FIFA on the issue ahead of the World Cup, which begins in Germany on June 9.

''I intend to keep raising the issue with them,'' Kawabuchi told reporters.

Japan have been drawn alongside Australia, Croatia and holders Brazil at the World Cup.
