Jabir Hussain files nomination for RS, CM for Parishad

Patna, Mar 17 (UNI) Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Jabir Hussain was among six nominees, who filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were among ten others who filed papers for election to the Upper House of the state Legislature today.

Acting secretary to Bihar Assembly-cum-Returning Officer Braj Kishore Singh Prabhat said here that former Union Minister Ravi Shanker Prasad filed his nomination paper for the Rajya Sabha election as lone BJP nominee. JD (U) nominees for the Rajya Sabha election Mahendra Sahni, Ali Anwar and Mahendra Prasad also filed their nomination papers during the day.

Besides Mr Hussain, Rajneeti Prasad was another RJD nominee who filed his papers today.

LJP leader Ranjan Prasad Yadav filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha seat while state LJP spokesperson Sanjay Singh filed papers for biennial election to the Legislative Council yesterday.

The biennial election to six Rajya Sabha seats and to 11 seats of State Legislative Council in the state would be held on March 29.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi filed his nomination for election to the state Legislative Council as BJP nominee.

Other BJP nominees for election to the Council were Baleshwar Singh Bharti and former state party president Tarakant Jha.

Mr Uday Narain Rai and Mr Bhim Singh (both RJD), Mr Chandan Bagchi (Congress) also filed their papers for election to the Upper House of the state Legislature during the day.

JD (U) nominees and state Ministers Ramashraya Prasad Singh and Mr Narendra Singh and former MP Nagmani also filed their papers for the state Legislative Council.

Scrutiny of nominations will be done tomorrow, while the names could be withdrawn by 1500 hrs on March 20.
